  • Vegan clogs made in Parma, Italy, for gardening or slipping-on for a walk outside; these are made of tough out-door plastic. For comfort, the fronts are foot-shaped and there is a removable sports insole. The anti-bacterial plastic softens above 60° and might melt above 100, so a very quick sterilisation at 100° or long wash at 40° are worth risking....

  • Pool-sliders or flip-flop sandals to wear barefoot, light and washable in any sink, with adjustable tops and soft soles, slightly sculpted to match the shape of a foot. Bought before checking where they are made, so these are not the most ethical shoes for vegans but they're here on the shelf.

  • Sandals that fit in a pocket when not being worn, and that can go in the wash. They have a little stiff foam to make a cushioned footbed, and rather hard straps that have a fabric lining. The footbed itself is an absorbent non-woven material that lets the foam dry-out after a wash.
